Calendar Workshop is a specialized web application for designing and preparing Orthodox wall calendars for professional printing.
Unlike a conventional online calendar, the application combines a complete layout editor with its own Orthodox calendar engine. Monthly pages can be freely designed using text, images, SVG elements, layers, templates, typography and an intelligent calendar grid.
Church feasts, commemorations of saints, fasting periods, Typikon symbols and monastery events are automatically processed and integrated into the layout. The completed project can then be exported as a multi-page, print-ready PDF/X-4 document.
Challenge
Creating an Orthodox wall calendar combines two very different requirements: professional print layout and the complex calculation of ecclesiastical calendar data.
General-purpose design applications do not understand Orthodox feasts, movable commemorations, fasting rules, Typikon symbols or the particular structure of an Orthodox monthly calendar.
The goal was therefore to bring professional page design and Orthodox calendar logic together in a single workflow.
Solution
A dedicated browser-based layout editor was developed with a document model based on real physical print dimensions.
It supports multi-page projects, layers, text, images, SVG graphics, shapes, templates, alignment tools and fully configurable calendar grids.
An independent calendar engine calculates fixed and movable feasts, saints' commemorations, fasting periods and other ecclesiastical rules. Recurring and one-time monastery events can also be added.
For professional printing, the application generates PDF/X-4 documents with embedded fonts, bleed, TrimBox, BleedBox, ICC profiles and integrated preflight validation.
